About
I'm Cythera! Your favorite gaymer's favorite gaymer.
I live in the Midwest with my lovely wife and cat.
I am a comparatist and language instructor by trade. (Hopefully I'll make more zines soon that reflect my research interests.)
I like making zines. I like reading honest thoughts of others. I love the freedom afforded by zines. I think I'm one of those people who had creativity pounded out of them as I grew older. I'm so happy to have a chance to connect with that side of me again as an adult. Every day is a practice in letting go of violent perfectionism. Feel free to look at my work on itch.io. But I also like making zines that are meant only for friends and family. I'm always happy to trade -- reach out to me at cythera15[at]protonmail.com
Making zines let me think about authenticity and DIY which led me to build my own website. It will be clunky and imperfect, but it will also be whimsy because of it. Let's claim the web back!
Papermaking and bookbinding are also my passion. Some of my zines are made from the paper I made! Both seem so intimidating, but there are easier ways of doing them at home without committing to a lot of equipment.
I also love sending and receiving postcards. I love Postcrossing and you should check it out if you also love snail mail!
If I had more time, I would love to translate more.
If I were a billionaire, I would share all the goodness of the world with others. (This probably means I will never be a billionaire.) I'll make sure everyone is housed, support women's esports league, and run a "Yellow Car Fund" where anyone who cannot afford to fix their cars will have their cars fixed through this fund. I will also make up a fake phrase, secretly incorporate it into a TV show I'm funding, and on my deathbed reveal that now my whimsy lives on in the English language.
If I had to small talk with you, I would pitch America's Next Top Poet to you. It's a reality show for MFA students to determine who will be America's next top poet. There will be amazing challenges like translation on spot, testing your rhyming skills, booksigning marathon... If you are interested in making my reality show into reality, hit me up!!!
Here are some songs that I'd use in a (really boring) biopic of me. Enjoy!
